Vicia angustifolia spp. nigra is an annual herbaceous vine, slender, to 1 m tall, stems often climbing. 

Leaves alternate, evenly pinnate, leaflets 3-5 pairs, linear. 

Flowers purple, 1.2-1.8 cm long, bilaterally symmetrical, pea-flower shaped. 

Fruit a dry, hollow, pod, flattened, blackish, 3-7 cm long seeds 4-12. 

Wetland status: FACU-. 

Frequency in NYC: Very infrequent. 

Origin: Europe. 

Habitat: Open fields.
