Sabatia stellaris is an annual herb, 20-60 cm tall (can bloom when much smaller if mowed), stems 4-sided, sparsely branched, pale gray-green, hairless.
Leaves opposite, no stalk, blade 2-4 cm long, usually widest above middle, tip pointed, base narrow.
Flowers pink with yellow eye and anthers, 5-parted, radially symmetrical, petals about 1 cm long, sepals linear; blooming July-Sept.
Fruit dry, hollow, a linear capsule, splitting open to release seeds.
Wetland status: FACW+.
Frequency in NYC: Very infrequent.
Origin: Native.
Habitat: High salt marshes.
