Rudbeckia triloba is a short-lived perennial or biennial herb, 50 cm to 1.5 m tall.
Leaves alternate, thin, basal ones egg-shaped, long-stalked, larger stem leaves 3-lobed.
Flowers in heads, rays yellow to orange, 6-13, 1-2 cm long, disk dark purple to brown, domed, 0.8-1.5 cm wide, basal bracts of head hairless, bristle-tipped; July-Oct.
Fruit a one-seeded dry achene with a tiny crown.
Wetland status: FACU.
Frequency in NYC: Very infrequent.
Origin: Native.
Habitat: Moist open woods, thickets.
