Oenothera laciniata is an annual herb, to 40 cm tall. 

Leaves alternate, to 8 cm long, narrow, margin wavy-toothed, to pinnately divided, green, sparsely hairy, tapered to base. 

Flowers yellow, petals to 1.8 cm long, May-Oct. 

Fruit a linear capsule to 3.5 cm long. 

Wetland status: FACU-. 

Frequency in NYC: Very infrequent (NYS rare, S1, E). 

Origin: Native. 

Habitat: Dry sandy soil. Seen once on White Island.
