Hieracium lachenalii is a perennial herb 15-100 cm tall, sap milky, plant sparsely long-hairy, from a root crown or short rhizome. 

Leaves mostly basal, blade 2-13 cm long, 1.5-5.5 cm wide, elliptic, pointed at both ends, long-hairy, margin coarsely, sparsely, toothed towards base, stem leaves at least 2, small. 

Flowers yellow, all rays, dandelion-like, 40-80 per head, bracteate base 0.8-1.2 cm tall, blackish-hairy; inflorescence branched. 

Fruit dry, 1-seeded achenes, 0.3 cm long. 

Wetland status: UPL. 

Frequency in NYC: Very infrequent. 

Origin: Europe. 

Habitat: Roadsides, fields.
