Hamamelis vernalis is a shrub Much like H. virginiana but
Leaves narrower than H. virginiana with wedge-shaped (unlobed) base, margin coarsely toothed.
Flowers yellow-red, blooms Jan-March.
Wetland status: NL.
Frequency in New York City: very infrequent.
Origin: Native to southern Midwestern U.S.; Missouri to Louisiana and Oklahoma (Dirr 1977).
Habitat: Horticultural. Overgrown in few natural areas.
