Veronica is a genus of mostly winter annuals or semi-evergreen short-lived perennial herbs, usually turning dark brown by summer. Low, ascending stems, young plants mat-forming.
Leaves opposite below flowering stem, often hairy, margins usually toothed, leaves of flowering stems alternate, usually much smaller than lower leaves.
Flowers blue-white, bilaterally symmetrical, petal tube short, 4-lobed, 2 stamens, small, solitary in axils of small leaves.

Fruit a dry, flattened, heat-shaped , two-parted capsule above old calyx lobes. Blooms in spring,
Habitat: Open areas or light shade. Lawns, edges, fill (Uva et al. 1997).
