Sericocarpus linifolius is a perennial 20-60 cm tall, from a root crown.
Leaves alternate, 2-8 cm long, 0.2-1 cm long, linear, stalkless.
Flowers: ray flowers 3-6, white, 0.5-1 cm long, disk flowers 5-10, white to yellowish; bracteate base of flower heads 0.4-0.7 cm long, bracts overlapping; blooming June-Sept.
Fruit dry, 1-seeded, achene, with dense tuft of hairs (pappus), wind dispersed.
Wetland status: UPL.
Frequency in NYC: Very infrequent (NYS S2, U).
Origin: Native.
